Worker’s Comp

Qualified Medical Evaluator

Dr. Warrington is a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) for Workers’ Compensation. He has ten offices throughout the State where he conducts evaluations. The main office is here, in Duarte, and the other offices are currently located  in:

  • Anaheim: 2400 East Katella, Suite 800, Anaheim, California, 92806
  • Glendale: 450 N Brand Blvd Suite 600, Glendale, CA 91203
  • Burbank: 3500 West Olive Avenue, 3rd Floor, Burbank, CA 91505
  • Gardena: 879 West 190th Street, Suite 400, Gardena, California, 90248
  • Los Angeles: 515 S. Flower Street  36th Floor Los Angeles, CA 90071
  • Los Angeles: 5670 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 1800, Los Angeles, California, 90036
  • Ontario: 3200 Guasti Road Suite 100  Ontario, CA 91761
  • San Bernardino: 473 E Carnegie Dr #200, San Bernardino, CA 92408
  • San Jose: 2033 Gateway Place 5th Floor San Jose, CA 95110

A QME evaluation can be a long process taking most of  the day. Normally, these begin at 8:30 or 9 AM and last until 5 PM.  Thereafter, the QME has thirty days to complete the report which normally goes to the insurance company and the attorneys (if any) for the worker and the insurance company.

Elements of a psychological QME include:

  • Medical record review (which is performed by the QME before or after the evaluation date)
  • Psychological Testing
  • Mental Status Exam
  • Taking a full history of the injury
  • An in depth interview to establish a comprehensive bio-psycho-social history of the injured worker

A QME evaluation addresses disputed facts. Ordinarily, an evaluation has to determine certain factors, which include:

  • Is there an injury? (i.e. a diagnosable disorder recognized  by the American Psychiatric Association in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM–5))
  • Did this injury arise out of, and happen in the course of, employment?
  • Is there need for treatment? If so, what? and for how long? Or has the injured worker reached maximum medical improvement?
  • Is there any disability? (this could be temporary or permanent, partial or complete)

Treating  Physicians

In addition to serving as a QME we, at Foothill Psychological Associates, also treat injured workers through Workers’ Compensation insurance programs. We are on a number of Medical Provider Networks (MPNs). Our office for Workers’ Compensation is located in El Monte. The phone number for the El Monte office is (626) 448-5501.

Workers who have experienced psychological injury during the course of their employment, either directly or subsequent to physical injury often experience trauma, depression and/or anxiety. We provide a comprehensive program of assessment and treatment if we are on your employer’s MPN. Check out the Injured Worker Guidebook for more details or visit the State of California’s  Web Site for the Department of Industrial Relations.

If you have been injured at work nearly every employer is required by state law to provide workers’ compensation insurance coverage for it’s employees.  Make an injury report and request to see a Workers’ Compensation doctor in the MPN for evaluation and treatment.
